BamaMats Ground Protection Mats | Alabama Pickup, Delivery & Dealer Programs
BamaMats is Ironcrest Equipment, LLC’s proprietary line of premium heavy-duty ground protection mats, stocked and supported from Cullman, Alabama. We import, warehouse, distribute and stand behind BamaMats for contractors, equipment operators, utilities, tree services and property owners who need dependable temporary access without destroying the ground beneath the job.

Heavy-duty 4×8 HDPE ground protection mats
BamaMats create temporary roadways, equipment access lanes and working surfaces over lawns, turf, mud, sand and other soft or sensitive ground. They help spread equipment weight, improve traction and reduce rutting caused by skid steers, mini excavators, trucks, trailers, lifts and other machinery.
- Full-size professional mat: 8 ft × 4 ft × 1/2 in
- Material: durable high-density polyethylene (HDPE), not rubber
- Weight: approximately 85 lb per mat
- Surface: aggressive diamond traction tread with a smooth reverse side
- Performance: rated up to 60 tons dynamic and 120 tons static under proper operating and ground conditions
- Warranty: 2-year limited warranty for qualifying normal-use applications
For concentrated loads and equipment above 50 tons, appropriate outriggers, cribbing or engineered load-distribution practices are recommended. Mat performance depends on soil and ground conditions, equipment configuration, tire or track contact area, load concentration, travel speed, turning and correct installation.
Ground protection mat applications
- Tree removal, forestry and vegetation-management access
- Landscaping, irrigation and lawn-protection projects
- Mini excavator, skid steer and compact-track-loader routes
- Utility, municipal and emergency-access work
- Mobile-home, shed, pool and building delivery
- Crane, lift, drilling and service-truck staging
- Construction entrances and temporary jobsite roads
- Residential, commercial and event-property protection
Why use HDPE mats instead of plywood?
Plywood absorbs water, splinters, breaks and becomes a disposal problem. BamaMats are reusable, weather-resistant and purpose-built for repeated deployment. Their full 4×8 footprint helps spread loads across a larger area, while the traction surface creates a more professional temporary access route for crews and customers.

Traction side or smooth side: how should BamaMats be installed?
For normal equipment travel, place the deep diamond traction surface upward and the smooth side against the ground. Begin on the firmest available surface and build the access lane toward the work area. Keep mat edges aligned, remove sharp debris beneath the route and inspect the path as ground conditions change.
Avoid hard spinning, abrupt braking or tight pivot turns on the mats. Those maneuvers can move the roadway, concentrate loads and damage the underlying surface. Use a spotter where visibility is limited, and follow the equipment manufacturer’s operating instructions.
How many ground protection mats do I need?
A standard 4×8 mat covers 32 square feet. For a straight single-width lane, divide the travel distance in feet by 8 and round up. For a wider route, multiply by the number of mat rows. Then allow extra mats for turns, passing areas, equipment staging and leapfrogging the roadway.
- 40-foot straight lane, one mat wide: start with about 5 mats
- 80-foot straight lane, one mat wide: start with about 10 mats
- 80-foot lane, two mats wide: start with about 20 mats
These are planning examples, not site-specific engineering recommendations. Tell us the equipment type, approximate operating weight, route length, ground conditions and turning needs, and we will help estimate a practical starting quantity.
Handling, cleaning and storage
At approximately 85 lb each, BamaMats should be moved using appropriate team-lifting practices or suitable handling equipment. Wear gloves and work boots, keep hands clear while positioning mats and never stand in the travel path of moving equipment.
After use, remove soil and debris with a broom, hose or pressure washer suitable for the jobsite. Inspect for damage before redeployment. Stack mats flat on stable ground, secure them for transport and keep the storage area clear of traffic hazards.
Connectors and temporary roadway planning
Connector needs vary with soil, slope, traffic pattern, equipment and route length. Aligned mats on stable ground may perform differently than mats used on mud, inclines or turning areas. Contact BamaMats before ordering if your project needs linked sections, wide work pads, repeated commercial deployment or unusual access conditions so the route can be planned around the application.

BamaMats frequently asked questions
+Are BamaMats rubber mats?
No. BamaMats are made from durable high-density polyethylene (HDPE). They are rigid enough to spread loads while retaining useful flexibility for many ground conditions.
+Can BamaMats protect lawns from skid steers and mini excavators?
They are designed to help reduce rutting and surface damage by creating a temporary equipment route. Results depend on soil moisture, turf condition, machine weight, track or tire design, turning and operator technique.
+Can I use BamaMats on mud or sand?
Yes, ground protection mats are commonly used on soft ground, including mud and sand. The route must still be inspected and adjusted for changing conditions, washouts, buried hazards and load concentration.
+Can heavy trucks and equipment drive over them?
BamaMats are rated up to 60 tons dynamic and 120 tons static under proper conditions. Ratings are not a substitute for site assessment. Concentrated loads, outriggers, narrow contact points, speed and sharp turns can create forces beyond a simple gross-weight figure.
+Do you ship individual mats?
No. Current sales are for Cullman pickup or qualifying local delivery within approximately 120 miles. Contact us about volume, wholesale or distributor programs for other markets.
+Do you offer bulk pricing?
Contractor and volume purchasing options are available. Pricing depends on quantity, pickup or delivery requirements and current inventory.
